The wind of the desert at sunset was always something pleasant to hear, after the scorching heat of the morning. Aria felt on her skin the sweet embrace of the air, impregnated with the smell of sand. The cold was setting over the city, but she did not care about it. From the terrace of the temple she could see the city below her which became chaotic. The merchants were closing the stalls, the men returning home after work, and the children still playing in the streets, shouting and chasing each other. However, even that didn’t interested her. She looked over the city, beyond the walls, toward the horizon. The sunset in the desert was always something extraordinary .
The solar disc was slowly dropping below the dunes, and the sand was darkening more and more. Even the sky was tinged with dark, but a thin line of light gave more color to the sky. The orange and yellow of sunset continued to illuminate the desert. Air saw the first rising stars in the sky. Venus was the first. A bright dot in the middle of the purple sky. She took the astrolabe. She wanted to predict the future of the region. It was a long time since she didn’t try to do it. Every time she did it she had confused and terrible visions. She always felt very tired and fatigued after viewing the region’s future.
But this time she wanted to test his skills. A month had passed since her last forecast, which was partially fulfilled. Now she had to make another one. She positioned the astrolabe in line with Venus, and waited a few minutes. The needle of the instrument moved from just another point in the sky. She shifted her gaze in the direction indicated, and saw another star. A star that only she could see. A red dot in the sky, surrounded by a purple halo. Her mind opened. The vision begun.
She found herself in a field of tall grass at sunset. Around her there was nothing but grass and a lonely tree, a tree that he had never seen before. She walked in the field, stumbling into something. She watched in what was tripped: a bow and arrows. She took them, and headed toward the tree. Instinctively she loaded the bow with an arrow, and having targeted, shooted . A cry of pain. She ran to the tree, and saw a man struck by his arrow. Dead. The bow was turned to stone, and the grass become dry. The sky blazed. The tree withered and man became a skeleton. The land fell under her feet. She woke up. Another vision of doom. She just had to hope it does not come true as the other.
