The jungle that night was surprisingly chilly and the moon glistened through the tree tops. The light cascaded helplessly through the branches on a sleeping figure.

The sleeping figure was Kori. Normally he didn't fall asleep, especially out in the middle of the jungle, but he had stayed up protecting the town. They were often attacked and fighting so much tired the poor Keid.

Kori's head was nodded to his chest and he was leaning against a tree. Beside him was his bow and on his back was a case of arrows.

Around him was the noise of crackling leaves and a slight breeze, but other than that, there weren't any other noises.

The young cat man was crouching in foliage nearby, staring up with his gleaming golden eyes that pierced the darkness of the jungle. He was being utterly silent in his place, waiting for the boy he was watching to let down his guard for a split second. He drew a dagger and held it between two fingers, lifting it above and behind his head, ready to throw, still waiting.

Kori slightly shifted from an uncomfortable position, but remained asleep, unaware of anything around him.

A slight wind picked up, but died down again and a few leaves blew in. Overhead, a bird flew over, but quickly disappeared in the treetops.

Garel smirked, his fangs glinting in the moonlight, and he shuffled forward with one foot to throw the dagger. As he did, his foot slipped into a small hole in the ground and he threw it way off course. It shot right over the Keid boy, cutting vines and sending a bird nest crashing to the ground. Garel dropped to the moist jungle floor immediately.

Kori awoke from all the noise and he immediately stood up, grabbing his bow and looking about. He sensed danger somewhere near.

His keen eyes brushed past each suspicious tree and he pulled out an arrow, ready for an attack.

Geral stayed flat on the forest floor, tilting his head very slowly to look up into the dark tree. He soon realised he couldn't stay where he was forever. He tried not to breathe in any dirt or plants in case he coughed and hoped the youth wouldn't stay where he was for too long. He'd come too far on his own to be caught out by a runt.

Kori shrugged and paced over to the fallen birds nest. He poked it with the point of his bow to find it empty. A squaking bird flew overhead, but disappeared deep into the forest. He figured he should head back, especially so late in the night. He knew that this was when the assassins were most sneaky.

He glanced slightly over his shoulder, and then went on the path that was a mile or two away from his village. He had to be quiet and careful.

Geral was pretty much on the side of the path before Kori and he hoped Kori would not step on him so he could sneak up on him before he reached the village. Though, if he was stepped on, Kori would have both feet immobolised and would be helpless against Geral's sharp daggers. He watched cautiously as Kori drew nearer.

Entry 1427 07/01/07 00:00
Kori was unaware of the dark figure hidden so well on the road, but his senses were very in tune with what was going on. Every little twig that snapped caught his attention, but he found himself looking up instead of looking down.

Suddenly, he tripped right over Geral and he leapt up, stringing an arrow on his bow and directing it at him. His heart pounded in his head and his hands became slippery from nervousness.

Geral was on one foot and one knee in an instant, two daggers drawn, but he stared back at Kori with glowing eyes. This youth was so inexperienced that he wanted to gag, but he remained still.

"If that hole wasn't there, you would be dead," he said, baring his teeth.

Entry 1429 08/01/07 00:00
Kori didn't remember any hole, but remained locked on his target. His eyes flashed for a moment, barely moving an inch.

He was unsure of Geral's power, but he didn't want to challenge it. He knew he wasn't going to get through this without a few injuries. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you."

Geral smirked, flashing his cat fangs more.

"You can't," he said with a sneer. "You're just a kid and I could cut your throat before you let loose an arrow on me." With that he leapt into Kori's legs, trying to tackle him down so that he couldn't use his bow, moving fast so that he was simply a blur amongst the thick foliage.

Entry 1431 09/01/07 00:00
Normally Kori would have been caught off guard, but he leapt back slightly, his aim still clear. If released, the arrow would strike Geral right in the heart.

"You're not much older than I," Kori told him, a sound of disgust clearly made to be heard. Deep down, he was afraid. The swiftness would be outmatched. Having someone against Geral would take a good amount of Keid to take down, especially since he was so swift. He didn't want to end his life in death.

Geral hissed and slowly got back onto his feet, still crouching. Slowly, his eyes drifted to a place behind Kori and they narrowed.

"Seems like you've got some help," he said, sounding disappointed, fixing his gaze on something behind his foe.

Kori became nervous and his eyes looked into Geral's pupils for a moment, and then he turned his head, craning to see if anyone was there. He quickly realized no one was there and knew he was foolish.

Entry 1434 10/01/07 00:00
Geral leapt at Kori and pinned him to the ground. The bow and arrow were knocked from his sweaty grasp.

"Even my little sister doesn't fall for that one!" Geral said with a sneer. "How stupid you are, boy!"

He held a dagger to Kori's throat when he stopped. His eyes narrowed again and his ears twitched. His gaze held Kori's, but his attention was elsewhere.

"Pah... Allies. You are extremely lucky that your friends are coming." He got up and grabbed Kori's arm, pulling him to his feet, and yanked him over behind a tree. "Now you listen to me. You're unarmed, slower, weaker, and far less intelligent. You're coming with me out of the jungle. A live Keid will earn me far more reputation than a dead weakling. If you call out, I cut your throat without hesitation."

He began to drag Kori along quickly, away from the voices that Kori could now probably hear.

Entry 1435 11/01/07 00:00
Kori cursed to himself silent. How could he have been so idiotic? How naive could he be? Now he was trapped in the hands of his greatest enemy for his own stupidity.

As Kori was dragged, he knew he wasn't to be pulled away without a fight. As he was dragged, he leapt forward and dragged Geral to the ground, pinning him and grabbing for a knife that was usually attached to his belt in case his bow were to break.

He held it up to Geral's throat, looking deep into his deadly-golden eyes. "I'm not as easy of a catch as you may think."

Entry 1436 11/01/07 00:00
Geral simply sneered at Kori, golden eyes glinting fearlessly back. Kori would've felt no more than a very slight prick in the side, as though a frond of a fern had poked him.

"Good night, boy," Geral said as he saw the effects of the sleeping tonic kick in. "Don't fight it. Just close your eyes like your body is telling you and you'll wake up far away from here. You're my trophie."

Kori eyed him suspicously, feeling a slight prick, but before long, a haze washed through his mind and his eyelids became heavy. The world spun under his feet and before he knew it, he was lying on the ground.

His eyes threatened to close as he reached for his knife, which was a few inches away from his reaching fingers, but right when he touched the handle, everything went black.
